Saint Gregorios of Parumala, popularly known as Parumala Thirumeni (Bishop of Parumala), was born on June 15, 1848. Dedication and sacrifice were the keystones of his life. His busy schedule never deterred him from standing beside the common man who came to him for help. Thirumeni's life was one of righteousness and holiness. Through his prayers many sick people were cured and many received peace and spiritual wealth. In his short but remarkable life, the Holy Fathermade it clear to the world that prayer and devotion are mightier than any worldly possession.

Gregorios was born in the priestly family of Chaturuthil in the village of Mulanthuruthy near Kochi. He was christened as Geevargese at the Mulanthuruthy Marthoman Jacobite Syrian Church.

Malpan. A deacon at the age of 10, a priest at the age of 18, a bishop of the Malankara Syrian Church at the young age of 28 (the reason he was called Kochu Thirumeni), he passed away at the age of 54 on  November 2, 1902, to become the brightest jewel of the Universal Syrian Church. In 1947, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church declared Mar Gregorios as a saint. He is the first canonized Christian saint from India.

Gregorios was involved in the activities and development of the Malankara Church.In the late 1890s many educational institutions were started by the Malankara Church under the initiative and guidance of Parumala Kochu Thirumeni and Pulikottil Joseph Mar Dionysius (Malankara Metropolitan). St.Thomas School at Mulanthuruthy, St. Ignatius School at Kunnamkulam, and the Syrian English School now known as MGM High School at Thiruvalla were some of the well known schools of the Church.
