Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a one day faculty development programme on “FUSION 360” on 13th July 2017 to improve the software skills of faculty.
The main objective of this FDP was to familiarise the faculty with FUSION 360 and enable them to do 3 D modelling with FUSION 360. This will provide ample exposure to 3 D modelling in a cloud based software. The venue of the programme was CLC computer Lab. Faculty from our mechanical engineering department, civil engineering department, instrumentation department and mathematics department attended the programme. The resource person was Mr. Viju Antony, Autodesk certified evaluator from BIMIT Kochi. Presently he is heading the Technical Training department of BIMIT.
Training on the software started from basics and all the participants created complex models by the end of the programme. Participants created different project groups and models. All the participants expressed a very positive feedback.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Jenny John Mattam, Assistant Professor of mechanical department.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with 3D Pioneer, Trivandrum organized a hands on training workshop for the B-Tech Mechanical Engineering Students on 25 March 2017. A total of 50 students attended the workshop.
Mr. Joel of 3D Pioneer handled the training program. The workshop covered the basics of Solid Modelling & 3D printing. The students were provided hands on experience on 3D printer.
After the workshop, Dr. Sreejith C C, HoD (ME) awarded the participants with certificates.
The inauguration of IIW (Indian Institute of Welding) Students' Chapter was held on 05/11/2016.
Sri. Jose P Philip, Chairman, IIW Cochin Branch (Kerala Chapter) was the chief guest of the function.
The IIW SAINTGITS Students' Chapter is the 1st IIW Students' Chapter in Kerala and the 2nd IIW Students' Chapter in India.
As part of the Departmental Alumni Activities, we conducted a programme "Exploring the outside world with eyes" related to photography. Mr. Arjun Thomas, alumni of 2009-2013 batch had an interaction with the students on September 30, 2016 at 2pm. A total of 39 students from S3 to S7 had participated in the programme. The Key Accomplishments of Mr. Arjun Thomas were (a) Conducted all India photo tour on motorcycle to spread the message of Road Safety Awareness covering 9 Indian states. (b) Appeared as a judge in All India MBA Photography competition conducted by MG University. (c) Worked for Maisto USA, leading toy manufacturers worldwide as a miniature photographer. (d) Appeared as photography judge for Model UN Conference, Jhansi. (e) Won First prize for 10 online and Malayala Manorama Photography competition. (f) Travel photography published in MalayalaManorama Travel Magazine. (g) Featured in Deccan Chronicle and in leading celebrity online pages. The programme came to a close at 4.30pm.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with SAE Saintgits Collegiate Club organized a One Day Workshop for the students on 'Engine Design, Development, Testing and Emission Control Technologies' on 20th August 2016 (Saturday).
Mr. P.ARJUNRAJ, Section Engineer (Engines- R&D), Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, Chennai was the resource person of the workshop.
Merit Day 2017
Our department organises "Merit Day" anually to recogonise the best performing students of the department in academic & non-academic fields and to encourage other students to perform better in thier respective fields.
The Merit Day - 2017 was conducted on 20 April 2017. Mr. Jose Philip, Chairman IIW (Indian Institute of Welding) Cochin Chapter was the Chief Guest of the programme.
CAD Modelling Contest
The department of Mechanical Engineering in association with ISTE Saintgits Chapter organized CAD Modelling contest for S4 Mechanical Engineering students on 05th April 2016. The contest was conducted with an aim to motivate the design aptitude of the S4 students and make them recollect the ideas the gathered during the add-on course on SOLIDWORKS in the third semester.
A three member panel consisting of Er.George T S, Er.Arun K Varghese & Er.Nisthul G evaluated the models and assembly and awarded the marks out of 50.
Based on the marks awarded by the evaluation panel, the following students emerged as the winners.

2. ANANTHAKRISHNAN R, S4 ME A, Roll No:-26
3. ASWIN KRISHNAN, S4 ME A, Roll No:- 36
The winners were honored with cash prize and certificates on the Mechanical Department Merit Day held on 13th April 2016.
