IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) founded in 1884, is a non-profit organization, and the largest technical organization in the world. IEEE serves over 3,50,000 members, who are geographically divided into 10 regions, with more than 300 Sections and under them, 1100 student branches worldwide. IEEE was founded to help its members share information in ways that promote innovation. Members of the Institute engage in technical and professional activities designed to advance the theory and practice of electro-technology.
Saintgits IEEE SB was inaugurated on July 2, 2012 by Dr. S. Gopakumar, former deputy director, VSSC/ISRO and Advisor, IEEE Student Activities. The IEEE student branch of the Saintgits College of Engineering continues to organize several technical activities in a collaborative spirit.

“Tailor Made Courses” – IEEE SSCS on 13 March 2017
This course in VLSI, organized by the IEEE SSCS SB and inaugurated by Harish Mysore, Director, IEEE India Operations, on March 13, 2017, is designed to enhance the employability of students and train them to meet industry requirements. The course is funded by IEEE-SSCS and its syllabus was approved by industry experts.
IEEE Kochi Subsection AGM on 7th January 2017
The Kochi subsection AGM was held at Gokulam Park Inn, Kaloor on 7th January 2017. The contributions of Asst. Prof. Abraham George, Saintgits IEEE SB student branch Counselor, towards IEEE was specially recognized by IEEE Kochi Subsection in the function.
Workshop on Android development by Er. Gitto Niclavose on 10th November 2016
This workshop was organized by the IEEE SB of Saintgits on November 10, 2016, and led by Gitto Niclavoseat the CAD Lab for 25 participants.
IEEE KOCHI HUB WIE CONGRESS 2016 on 1st and 2nd October 2016.
The two-day meeting, on October 1-2, 2016, was organized by the Saintgits IEEE Student Branch along with IEEE Kochi Hub. 131 students participated, with 119 external participants from 15 engineering colleges from Kochi. Jofin Joseph, Head of India Operations, Full Contact, inaugurated the conference and motivated the students by talking about his life and career. Three parallel workshops onI introduction to MATLAB, PCB Design and Fabrication, and Introduction to AutoCAD, were held. The cultural evening was enlivened by the performance of the college music band.
Ruby Peethambaran, founder and CSO at Fourth Ambit, took a session on work life balance and advised students on life skills.
Next day witnessed a fabulous session by Ruby Peethambaran (Founder and CSO at Fourth Ambit) in which she explained how work life balance could be made and motivated the students to fine tune their skills for future. Presentations from various IEEE affinity groups were made. Discussions and feedback on the whole event was entertained and the whole programme was wound up after a photo session.

IEEE PES Quiz for 1st year Btech Students on 4th October 2016.
As part of the IEEE day celebrations, the 1st phase of IEEE PES quiz competition for first year B.Tech students was conducted on October 4, 2016 at 1.00 pm. Bins Sebastian of S1MEA and Arun Sojan of S1CSEA won the 1st and 2nd prize at college level respectively.
Technical Talk Organised by SAINTGITS IEEE WIE on 21th September 2016.
A technical talk on “LiFi and Augmented Reality was organized by the Saintgits IEEE WIE in connection with the Engineers day on September 21, 2016. The talk discussed the most promising and the fastest emerging technologies in the field of wireless communication. The game ‘Pokemon Go was used as an example of the application of augmented reality in gaming .
4th Conference on Solid State Circuits on 25th and 26th August 2016.
The fourth conference on Solid State Circuits, organized on August 25-26, 2016 by the Saintgits IEEE SSCS students’ chapter, was inaugurated by Dr. Ganesh Shankar Samudra from the National University of Singapore who spoke on “Negative Capacitance Ferroelectric MOSFET in Low Power Circuits: Potential and Limitations”. Dr. Ganesh also spent some very valuable moments with researchers during a small group chat. Dr. Ravi Shankar R. Velampati, IIT Ropar, Punjab, spoke on “Towards Nano crystal Nonvolatile Memory Devices”, the concept of nano crystals being used as floating gate, which act as a promising candidate to replace conventional memory. Dr. Ajayan K. R, CET, Trivandrum, delivered a talk on “Lower Power VLSI circuit Design methods” and explained the need of power optimization for the coming era. The two-day conference included paper presentation sessions, where 10 papers were discussed, and a poster presentation session.

Knowledge Enhancement Talk Series 2016
Dr. K.P Zachariah gave a talk on July 20, 1016, on the topic ‘The Logic Behind the Techniques used in the Steady-State Analysis of AC Circuits’. It discussed the concepts of linearity, phasor diagrams and the techniques used in steady state analysis.
IEEE Kochi Hub Monthly meet hosted at Saintgits on 31st july 2016
IEEE Kochi Hub monthly meeting 4 was held at Saintgits College of engineering on 31st July 2016. The meeting had discussion over the future programmes of IEEE kochi Hub and was decided that the IEEE Kochi Hub WIE congress 2016 will be organised by SAINTGITS IEEE SB. The afternoon session had a workshop on line follower by the technical team of IEEE Kochi Hub.
Workshop on “ Introduction to Robotics” at St. Mary’s School, Puthuppally on 21st June 2016
As part of Saintgits IEEE SB outreach activities, a Workshop on “Introduction to Robotics” was conducted at St. Mary’s School, Vettathukavala, Puthupally. A five-member volunteer team of five-- four students, along with Asst. Prof. Abraham George, IEEE SB Counselor—took the four-hour workshop for 90 students, gave an overview on robotics, using Arduino boards and line.

Saintgits IEEE SSCS Students Chapter organized an Interactive session on “Polymer MEMS: An Emerging Technology for Nano mechanical Sensors” on May 3, 2016, with Dr. Seena V, Department of Avionics, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Trivandrum. A student described the session as “the most effective and fruitful with new solutions for the problems faced in device modeling.”
“Do U kNow Ard Ui No”- Workshop on Arduino and programming contest on 9th April 2016
The Saintgits IEEE SB Chapter organized this one day workshop on Arduino and programming contest on April 9, 2016 for the S2, S4 and S6 B.Tech students of AE, EC, EE, CS and ME departments. A total of 21 students from various branches gathered into 5 groups participated in the event. The sessions were handled by the Saintgits IEEE SB technical team, under the leadership of Mr. Ajin George Reji (S6EE) and Mr. Alwin Tom (S6EE).

IEEE DAY CELEBRATIONS and IEEE PES SAC STATE LEVEL QUIZ- PHASE 1
As part of the IEEE day celebrations, the 1st phase of IEEE quiz competition for the B.Tech students was conducted on 6th October 2015 at 1.00 pm. 44 students from various branches participated in the event. Mr. Nijo Varghese Chacko of S7ECE won the 1st prize and Ms. Jitty James of S7EEE won the 2nd prize. The winners were selected for the finals conducted at GEC, Thrissur on October 10th.
3rd IEEE SSCS CONFERENCE on SOLID STATE CIRCUITS
The IEEE SSCS student branch of Saintgits College of Engineering organized a two day conference on “Solid state circuits” on the 13th and 14th of August 2015 at Saintgits college of Engineering. Dr. M. Jagadesh Kumar, NXP (Philips) Chair Professor, IIT Delhi, inaugurated the function. The programme was funded by the IEEE SSCS society. Dr. Rama Komarigiri, Associate Professor, National Institute of Technology, Kozhikode delivered a talk on ‘Introduction to Device Modeling and Simulation’. Dr. Sooraj R. (Assistant Professor, Department of Avionics, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology) and Dr. Jobymol Jacob were the other two distinguished guests of the conference. A total of 72 participants presented their research papers in the event.
TECHNOLOGY DAY CELEBRATIONS
Technology Day was celebrated by Saintgits College of Engineering in association with IEEE SSCS Saintgits SB chapter on 12th May 2015. Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas, Director IIUCN, M.G. University was the Chief- Guest of the day.
WORKSHOP ON LT SPICE AND MATLAB FOR BEGINNERS
A workshop on LT SPICE and MATLAB was conducted for the 1st year B.Tech students on 20th April 2015 by the IEEE WIE SB chapter of Saintgits. Er. Abraham George, Er. Ancy Sara Varghese and Er. Asha Anu Kurian handled the lab sessions. A total of 25 students participated in the workshop.
50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND ANNUAL MEETING
The 50th Anniversary celebration and Annual meeting of IEEE IAS was conducted on 16th April 2015. David B Durocher (IEEE IAS President) and Dr. Peter Magyar (IEEE- IAS CMD Chair) were the chief-guests of the day.

KSEB Engineers Association and the IEEE Power and Energy Society, Kerala Chapter, technically in association with the EEE Department of SAINTGITS College of Engineering jointly organized Special Seminar Series at District level at Saintgits College of engineering on 27th February, 2015. The subject to be deliberated was "TRENDS AND CHALLENGES IN SMART GRID TECHNOLOGY". Mr. Akhil Benny and Mr. Amal shibu won the first prize in the event. Later, they also won the first place in the state level and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10000/-.

WORK SHOP ON “SOFT COMPUTING TECHNIQUES IN ADVANCED POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS”
A work shop on soft computing techniques in advanced power system analysis was organized by the IEEE IAS SB chapter from 24th to 26th November for the EEE students. Dr. M.D. Mathew, Dean PG, Saintgits College of Engineering and Former Head Mechanical Metallurgy Division IGCAR Kalpakkam inaugurated the event. Prof. Siju K Swami (Assistant Professor, Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam), Dr. Prince A. (Professor, RIT Kottayam), Dr. Sishaj Simon (Professor, National Institute of Technology, Trichy) and Dr. Kumaravel S. (Professor, EEE Department, NIT Calicut) handled the sessions. The 1st HUB level IEEE PES SAC State level quiz competition for the first year B. Tech students was conducted on 22th November 2014 at KMEA College, Edathala. The winners of 1st phase participated in the event.
FPGA BOARD TRAINING
A work shop on FPGA board training was conducted by the IEEE SSCS SB chapter from 11th to 15th November 2014 for the ECE students. Mr. Vijay C, Application Engineer, Coreel Technologies Bangalore, handled the training sessions.

A workshop on ANSYS HSSS software was conducted by the IEEE SSCS student branch from 20th to 24th October 2014 for the ECE students.
IEEE PES SAC STATE LEVEL QUIZ FOR +2 STUDENTS
The IEEE PES SAC State level quiz competition for the +2 students was conducted at Don Bosco HSS Puthuppally on 17th October 2014 at 12.00 pm. 31 students from various disciplines participated in the event. Ms. Arya Sabu of XII B won the 1st prize. The prize distribution was done by Fr. Kuriakose Shastamkala, Principal, Don Bosco HSS on 29th October 2014. The winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1000/-.

IEEE SSCS Distinguished Lecture by Dr. Jacob Baker
The Distinguished Lecture on “Ultra-Small Memory Module Design” by Dr R. Jacob Baker, Professor, University of Nevada, U.S.A., was conducted on 11th April, 2014 at SAINTGITS college of Engineering by the SSCS Student Branch in association with IEEE Kerala section. Mr. Sabarinath G Pillai, Secretary IEEE Kerala Section and Mr. Paul Ansel, Student Activities Chair, IEEE Kochi Subsection were present during the lecture.
Prof. Dr. R. Jacob Baker threw light on main memories limitation and the various power handling problems. He explained the limitations of DRAM design and introduced the new technology of nanomemory modules and hybrid memory cubes. An interactive section with the chief guest was arranged in which Design Engineers from various Industries, faculties and students from different colleges actively participated.
IEEE IAS Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Blake Lloyd and Dr. Peter Magyar
As part of the distinguished lecture series, a lecture was arranged by IEEE- IAS SAINTGITS student branch chapter on 22-01-2014. Prof. Blake Lloyd (IEEE- IAS President) and Dr. Peter Magyar (IEEE- IAS CMD Chair) were the chief guests.
Prof. Blake Llyod delivered a talk on ‘Effects of Modern Variable Speed Drives on Motor and Insulation’ and Dr. Peter Magyar on ‘Opportunities and Benefits to IAS Members’. These sessions were very informative and interactive.
Workshop & Conference on Solid State Circuits
The SSCS student branch of IEEE, SAINTGITS College of Engineering organized a three day Workshop and Conference on Solid State Circuits from the 30th January to 1st February, 2014. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Rama S Komaragiri, Associate Professor, ECE Department, NIT Calicut. Dr Rama S Komaragiri, gave a very interesting session on ‘Advances in Memories: A Material Perspective’ after the inaugural ceremony.
A brief overview of VLSI design flow and hands-on session on the Mentor Graphics tool were given by Mr. Chiranth M. Patil, Application Engineer and Mr. Vidyasagar M K, Zonal Manager from CoreEl Technology.
The major topics covered during the conference were:

The conference was attended by 54 practitioners from the VLSI domain from various institutions across Kerala.
IEEE Kerala Section AGM
The annual general body meeting of IEEE Kerala section was held at Kollam on 11th January 2014. Prof. Shajimon K. John, Asst. Prof. Aravindan A. and Asst. Prof. Ajith Ravindran represented SAINTGITS student branch and exchanged their views during the interaction session.
IEEE IAS SB Industrial Visit
An industrial visit was conducted on January 24, 2014 to NTPC, Kayamkulam. A group of 34 students accompanied by the faculties visited the plants and also the Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in NTPC.
An industrial visit was conducted on February 14, 2014 to southern railway, Trivandrum division. A group of 35 students along with faculties visited the Traction substation, Kazhakootam, Trivandrum, followed by a visit at DRM office, Thycaud, Trivandrum and loco-shed at Thampanoor, Trivandrum.
FPGA Xilinx workshop
The FPGA Xilinx workshop was conducted on 16th December 2013. The entire session was divided into two: one involved pondering the basic theories on VHDL coding and modeling and the other on its practical aspects. A total of 40 students from various branches took part in the workshop. The workshop was handled by Asso. Prof. Binu K Mathew, Er. Aravindan and Er. Ajith Ravindran. Simulation of VHDL programs and FPGA familiarization were done effectively.
IEEE All India Student Congress 2013
Mr. Sebin Joseph (IAS Chapter chair) of M.Tech Power Systems participated in the IEEE All India Student Congress 2013 organized by IEEE Madras Section at Amrita University, Coimbatore from 2nd – 5th October 2013.
IEEE PES Kerala Chapter Quiz contest 2013
The preliminary round for the student branch Quiz competition was done at SAINTGITS Campus on 12-7-13. 15 students from different branches of our college participated in the event. Jacob Damy, Jabin George and Sachu P. Mathew of Mechanical Engineering bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. The final phase of the competition was held at TKM College of Engineering, Kollam on Wednesday, the 2nd October 2013.
IEEE WIE SAINTGITS SB Chapter- JYOTHIRGAMAYA-13
Jyothirgamaya-13 was organised by the IEEE WIE SB chapter of SAINTGITS college of Engineering on 4th July 2013. Talk on career guidance and debate competition on the topic “GENDER EQUALITY IN EMPLOYMENT” were organized for the higher secondary school students at Kendriya Vidyalaya & Baker Vidhyapeed, Kottayam. 90 school students along with 17 IEEE SB members participated in the event.
