B. Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering is a four year professional undergraduate programme offered by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University,Kerala. The intake of sixty students are nurtured by staff advisors through a well established mentoring system. The B.Tech. programme is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) from 2016.
The main objectives of this programme are to equip student engineers to be industry-ready with necessary core competency to succeed in long-term in engineering/entrepreneurship careers and mould them to undertake postgraduate studies and research careers. Electronics and Communication Engineering is the application of science and mathematics to provide ethical and optimal solutions to socio-economic problems for the betterment of mankind. Electronics and Communication engineers engage in research, design, development and testing of the electronic equipments used in various systems.
While building a solid foundation of the mathematical and engineering fundamentals, the student engineers are also exposed to the emerging and existing trends in the industry. The course provides flexible study structure to foster the student’s intellectual and inherent skills and interests with wide variety of elective subjects from multidisciplinary areas along with the main core subjects of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The course covers a wide range of technologies for the future growth in the fields like VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Communication Systems etc.
During the course of study, the students have to undergo specialized training to upgrade and fine tune their engineering skills and creativity through courses like Design and Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Project Design & Implementation etc. through which they can develop projects of their own interest & provide feasible solutions to real world problems. We encourage our students and facilitate them to take up live projects from industries and corporate world. It gives them good exposure to an industrial work culture.
Classes are also delivered by experts from various partner universities around the world through the e-learning network as well as in the form of hands-on training, workshops and seminars to train the student engineers to become world class engineers. Our students have access to industry specific laboratories (Matlab Simulation Environment, Cadence VLSI framework, Ansys campus wide license, Xilinx VLSI Design Suite with advanced FPGA and SoC boards, Xilinx partial reconfiguration tool and OrCAD EDA tool, KEIL Microvision, ARM 7 boards) with industrial collaboration and well stacked library with world class journals and online resources. The students also are encouraged to actively participate in worldwide technical conferences to present their work in a wider platform and to interact with fellow community.
Industrial training is a part of the curriculum where students have to work in an industry which is related to their area of interest for a minimum period of 4 weeks during the summer vacation. Essentially, this gives them an exposure to the technology and practices prevailing in the industry. Seminars included in the curriculum help them to experience self-learning and develop communication and interpersonal skills along with exposure to newer technologies. Various clubs operated at the department level train the students on various aspects related to the industrial requirements such as technical projects and opportunity to participate in competitions. Research activity in the department encourages them for innovations and lifelong learning.

M.Tech. in VLSI and Embedded Systems is a two year programme offered by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala. This programme covers the fundamentals and engineering aspects in the design and development of Integrated Circuits and Systems. VLSI technology has emerged out as a successful conglomeration of material science and electronics engineering. The state-of-the-art VLSI technology requires thorough knowledge in physics of semiconductor devices as well as design and development of electronic circuits from its basic components. The programme focus on developing hands-on skills in the design and simulation of semiconductor devices and circuits, architecting systems using embedded components. Electronics engineers will be trained in areas starting from lowermost level of physical devices to the top level of application development.
This program aims at preparing electronics engineers to develop knowledge and skills in VLSI design methodology with a systems perspective in order to facilitate the use of computer-aided design tools for the analysis and design of special purpose digital and analog circuits and systems.
