Saintgits Department of Civil Engineering

Department of Civil Engineering in Saintgits College of Engineering was established in 2002. In 2004 Under Graduate programme in Civil Engineering was started with an intake of 60 students under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. In 2008 the first batch of graduate students came out with flying colours. In 2009 Department along with college was accredited by ISO 9001 2008 for provision of educational services in Engineering and Technology.

In 2010, Post Graduate course in Geomechanics and Structures started with an intake of 18 students. This is a unique course which provides knowledge about two main streams in civil engineering. The course was first of that kind in India approved by AICTE. The Course and Syllabus was designed in the Department under MG University guidance.

In 2011, department established Advanced geotechnical Engineering lab for geotechnical research. In 2013 Department established Outcome Based Education for world class quality education. In 2014 Department shifted to new block of about 50000 Square Feet. Another mile stone in the Department history was the involvement in Obama- Singh 21st Century Knowledge initiative along with Mahatma Gandhi University. The Civil Engineering aspect of the project was dealt by the Department.

In 2014, Under Graduate course intake was increased to 120 students. In the same year Post Graduate Course in Structural and Construction Management with an intake of 24. The intake of Post graduate course in Geomechanics and Structures is presently 24.

In 2015 Department was accredited by Institute of Engineers, India. In the same year Department got affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam technological University, Kerala. Department established its second research lab- Structural Engineering Lab in the same year.

Presently Department has 463 Students, 44 Faculty, building of 50000 Square Feet, 11 fully equipped laboratory, 2 research labs, 2 PG Courses, Professional body chapters ISTE ( Indian Society for Technical Education), ICI (Indian Concrete Institute) and IE (Institute of Engineers). Department has a student association ACES (Association of Civil Engineering Students) organising numerous professional events in the Department. Today department is also a major Civil Consult in the region.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) are the attributes a graduate from SAINTGITS Department of Civil Engineering is expected to attain after four to five years after his graduation.

By the end of the programme, the graduate from SAINTGITS Department of Civil Engineering gains the ability to

Design solutions for complex civil engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the desired needs of the society such as public, health, and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

Investigate and conduct experiments as well as to analyse and interpret data for complex civil engineering problems and come out with feasible solutions

Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering tools necessary for civil engineering practice considering limitations.
