The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Delhi to offer Training to Trainers (ToT) program at the Saintgits campus, scheduled on Feb. 28, 2019. The topic for the program is ‘Advanced Manufacturing Process Level II’. The training will focus on - faster implementation of food safety standards in society. The FSSAI officials will visit Saintgits campus and will provide training to about 20 professionals (external as well as internal), which would help them to become trainers in FoSTaC. The training will be conducted to help create a set of master trainers in Kerala who will in turn, deliver training after becoming trainers in FoSTaC (Food Safety Training & Certification).
FSSAI’s such TOT Programme intends to make existing food safety regulators well acquainted with a wide spectrum of regulatory provisions and new concepts developed in various regulatory mechanisms. These are programmes for Training of Trainers (ToT), which are mandatory, and each state is advised to nominate appropriate officers for these programmes. In line with this, the Commissioner of Food Safety (Kerala) is planning a meeting of all FoSTaC Empanelled Training Partners in Kerala in near future. Mr. Sony George, Sr Assistant Professor, Department of Food Technology, Saintgits, is invited to attend the programme and to present a talk on ‘Mode of Operation of FoSTaC in Kerala'.
Annual General Body Meeting (AGBM) of Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) AFST (I) - Cochin chapter was held on Feb. 2, 2019 at KUFOS (Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi). Er. Sony George, a faculty member at Saintgits, Department of Food Technology, was selected as one of the 11 executive committee members of the AFST (I) Cochin chapter.
16 students of 4th semester successfully completed the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) course ‘Fundamentals of Food Processing’. Ms. Amala Theresa George completed the exam with an ELITE grade. Also, 8 students completed edX course on ‘Nitrogen Cycle’. On similar ground, Saintgits is offering B Tech degree programme in Food Technology and Management. This programme is unique and blends the basic essence of Food Science, Engineering and Management, meeting the needs of the food sector in addition to providing great job opportunities for students.
