Mechanical Engineering Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering accredited by the Institution of Engineers (IE) is among the three founding education streams at Saintgits. The department offers an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering and a postgraduate program in Machine Design. The four-year B Tech program comprises 8 semesters integrated with theoretical and practical sessions, focusing on key industry-linked technological domains including HVAC, Pneumatics, Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics, Aerospace, Vehicle Design, Nano engineering, etc. Apart from boasting talented and experienced faculty, the Department runs laboratories and research centres in partnership with corporates and R&D organizations and is also enriched by its association with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) USA, and BOSCH India. Our courses expose the mechanical engineering students to a range of technical and management fields, empowering them to smoothly transition into an organisation manager.
Transforming young minds into motivated, quality aware and environment-conscious technocrats.
- Educating the students to excel professionally by:
- Providing facilities and environment conducive to a high quality education.
- Cultivating the spirit of entrepreneurship, applied research and responding effectively to the needs of the industry.
- Emphasizing the values of leadership, contributing to economic development, protecting the environment and improving the quality of human life.
I warmly welcome you to the webpage of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Here you will find the latest news about the department, its exceptional achievements and updates of students and faculty. The UG programme in the department of Mechanical Engineering is certified with NBA Accreditation status.
APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (APJAKTU) instituted in the year 2015 is bringing radical change in the engineering and technology education in the state with the major objective of producing employable engineering and technology graduates from engineering colleges. In line with the guidelines and policies laid down by the university the department is practicing concept-oriented outcome-based teaching-learning system. In the creative and attractive curriculum, we strive to assimilate the latest developments in Mechanics, Dynamics, Thermo-fluid, Robotics, Mechatronics, Energy, and Manufacturing. It is another feather in the crown of the department that the department occupies 5th position among the private self-financing engineering institutions in the state in terms university results.
Our strategy for ensuring that our department remains well-positioned to maintain its phenomenal growth includes attracting highly competent scholars as faculty members, expanding our honors tracks, and continuing to review and redefine knowledge transfer process, with an eye towards elevating the department to highly regarded position in the state level. We attempt to provide our students with a cheerful, productive and satisfying experience at all levels of their program of studies to discover the incredible world of Mechanical Engineering.

Research Activities – Our department facilitates both Undergraduate Student Research and Faculty Research activities. The research activities are technical stream-centric (Design, Production, Thermal and Industrial) and have been gaining momentum in the recent past. Sponsored Research projects proposed by the faculty and supported by various government funding agencies help in the upliftment of research activities of each stream.
Research Seed Money Project Proposals sanctioned by CERD –
- Experimental investigations into microdrilling of metal matrix composites – Er George John
- Enhancement of tribological, rheological and thermal properties of rubber seed oil for engine oil applications – Er Amith Aravind
