Students at SAINTGITS have designed a smart monitoring and controlling system for aquaponics. This system maintains the concentration of elements in water using sensors, controllers and pumps to provide a better living environment for the aquatic plants and fishes.

Aquaponics refers to any system that combines aquaculture (raising aquatic animals) and hydroponics (raising aquatic plants) enabling symbiotic growth of aquatic animals and plants. Water (made toxic due to animal excretions) from an aquaculture system is fed into a hydroponics system where nitrogen creating bacteria act on it to extract nutrients for plants.

This saves a lot of time that would otherwise have gone into cleaning fish tanks and also facilitates the better growth of aquatic plants
