About Us

Saintgits Design School (SDS), an autonomous design institute under the Saintgits Group of Institutions has commenced an academic initiative this year offering the AICTE-approved 4-year UG Programme (B. Des.). Three major disciplines within the programme include Product Design, Communication Design and Interaction Design,

Design education is a unique blend of art, science and technology which can solve many problems and enrich life. In a world beset with myriad problems which cannot be tackled with a single skill, a multi-disciplinary course like design is seen as the need of the hour. Even corporates have started appreciating the power of design with their efforts to incorporate design thinking into their business strategies to improve profit margins.

Saintgits Design School seeks to evolve into a premier Institute offering excellence in academics and research in the field of design. Comprising a core talented faculty and consistent involvement of expert visiting faculty from renowned design institutes, the B Des. programme offers a holistic approach to amalgamating emerging technologies and innovative pedagogical methods.

Committed to nation-building and addressing the needs of society, the programme envisages creating graduates who have innovation, creative thinking, critical thinking, digital skills, entrepreneurship and sustainability in their core DNA.

Programmes

Saintgits offers B. Des. programme in Product Design, Communication Design and Interaction Design. This programme is meant to develop students’ skills, knowledge and aptitude to become creative problem solvers who can bring about innovation in the fields connected with design and emerging technologies. . Students coming from different streams undergo a common foundation programme to learn visualising and modelling skills and think creatively by exposure to various media.

Product Design

A Product designer is committed to the cause of improving the quality of the human environment with products that are functional and aesthetic. A creative professional who solves (through design and critical thinking) by correlating technical, social and ergonomics aspects with human needs. Students, during this programme, interact with the industry, institutions and social organisations to understand, study, analyse and solve various kinds of existing problems. The choice and outcome of the final projects in this programme reflect the student’s aspiration to improve and change the consumer product scene and emerging technologies.

Communication Design

The Communication design programme at SDS seeks to train students to create compelling narratives in print and digital media. The emphasis is to inculcate creative problem-solving skills using appropriate media and generate innovative methodologies for effective communication. The focus is to advance the student’s understanding and problem-solving skills in print media, broadcast media, animation and film making. Students learn about designing brands, publication design, packaging design, signage design and more to be a full-fledged communication designer.

Interaction Design

This discipline aims to impart knowledge and further research in the domain of designing interactive experiences in media, consumer products, and software design applications. Graduates in this programme will emerge with good cognitive and technical skills for analytical abilities, specific techniques, sensitive approach and knowledge of interaction design practices. The programme focuses on human-centred needs and new technologies. The focus of this course will be to create attractive interfaces along with efficient navigation and seamless user experience while exploring virtual, augmented and mixed reality scenarios.

A new way of learning

Design does not follow a typical textbook-based rote learning approach and focuses more on learning by doing. Classrooms, workshops, studios and labs are where students are mentored by experienced faculty in various nuances of design though assignments, projects, presentations and exhibitions. Learning from experts and from peers help them develop a multi-dimensional approach to design. Internal and external juries are conducted to help them fine-tune their concepts further. Full-fledged labs and workshops help them execute these ideas in their chosen media. Field visits, industry visits and internships keep them up-to-date on the industry trends and requirements.

Best of faculty

SDS will have qualified and experienced faculty from the IITs and other design schools in the country who will guide and mentor the students through their journey of discovery. Students also get a chance to participate in faculty’s consultancy and research projects. SDS will also have a pool of visiting faculty of practising designers to provide varied insights to students.

Best of facilities

SDS will have studio facilities along with labs equipped with machines including 3D printer and laser-cutting machines to bring their ideas to life. A well-stocked library with several subject-specific books and magazines, an auditorium for screenings and interactive spaces for discussions are being set up. The fully residential campus will have separate hostels for boys and girls with mess and cafeteria.
