Overview
The Department of Commerce of Saintgits College of Applied Sciences was started in the year 2004, with a batch of B.Com. Model III Computer Applications under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. An additional batch was started in the year 2010 and a post graduate programme in M. Com E-Commerce was introduced in the academic year 2013. In 2019, the PG programme was revised to M. Com Finance & Taxation as per the restructured curriculum. B. Com Model III Finance & Taxation was introduced during 2014. At present, the department has two B. Com Computer Applications batch, one B. Com Taxation batch, and one M. Com Finance & Taxation batch.
The department is blessed with outstanding results and bagged various university ranks during the past 10 years. Till date the department has produced 1700 undergraduate and 150 post-graduate students. Students have been placed in reputable accounting firms such as Ernst & Young (EY), Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) etc. and banks such as Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, HDFC, ESAF etc.
Well qualified and experienced teachers who cater to the needs of the students are the strength of the department. A well-equipped computer lab enables technology driven commerce education.
In order to enrich the students, the department has a student chapter of Yuva, an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The Yuva team at Saintgits won the prize for the best college under Yuva Kochi Chapter held at the Inspiration Summit in Kochi on 26th November 2022. The department builds confidence and the skill sets of students by providing various value-added courses,’ On-the-Job Training, industrial visits and study tours to get connected with the industry. Leadership skill among students is enhanced through the Commerce Association (Yashus) activities. The students of the department regularly win prizes, including overall championships, at various inter collegiate events. The department maintains constant connection with its alumni by arranging alumni interaction programs for the current students.

Welcome to the Department of Commerce. The modern business requires highly trained and skillful young persons. This requirement has given due importance to commerce education. We cater to the students to train and educate to manage the highly complicated modern business to get the desired level of result from the trade. The curriculum is well in tune with the industry demand and the department seeks to nurture, challenge, support, and encourage our students to face the global challenges. In addition to the syllabus, we offer various value-added courses to enrich the knowledge of the students. One month On the Job Training (OJT) is provided to the students to explore more on the organizational functioning. 1700 plus students were graduated and well placed in the Banking sector, logistic operations, leading audit firms, IT sector, and Other MNC’s, Teaching and own business. We ensure leadership quality by providing various responsibilities to build the managerial skills of the students.
