MENTORING PROGRAMME FOR DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
The Mentoring programme of Department of Mechanical Engineering aims at developing the overall personality and career competency of students. The programme has multiple objectives as the course progresses, in addition to mentoring and supporting academic performance. Mentoring is given much importance in the whole academic process and the mentor is expected to take full charge of all the activities of the student’s right from beginning of the course until passing out. Department consider the faculty mentor can enjoy the responsibility for the overall personality & behavior of mentee student in the campus, as well as his/her academic performance and career competency in the discipline.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A MENTOR
Students need to be oriented towards a vision and mission for life. Clarity about life and career objectives needs to be generated.
The discussions and activities must focus on value based professional and personal life.
Students must be developed with an Engineering aptitude and professional approach is to be built.
Since there is a genuine concern over improving the communication skills of students, language development and communication orients activities should be facilitated.
Students need to be encouraged to take up club and association activities
Students need to be encouraged and motivated to carry out good and creditable semester projects, and main project.
Students should be made to participate in technical seminars/conferences/workshops/symposia/training programmes etc.
Students need to be properly guided and motivated to take part in technical contests/events in and outside the college.
Innovation and initiatives from the part of students should be motivated if it supports department development and self-development of the students.
Students need to be given idea about industrial sectors and build their sector knowledge.
Provide directions to identify organizations for conducting final project and for selecting suitable project topics.
Provide directions and proper encouragement to undertake Entrepreneurial activities based on the aptitude of the students
Help to effectively plan the conduct of the project with a clear time frame and bring clarity in preparing good quality project reports that uses research methodology systematically and adequately.
Ensure systematic documentation record of activities and give a monthly feedback to the Chief coordinator (Staff Advisory system)
Every mentor is expected to keep a complete record of the performance of every student in their group. Mentor should continuously monitor the attendance, performance in examinations and tests, extracurricular activities, discipline and overall improvement of students. All the pertinent details/date should be recorded.
There will be review of the mentoring done by individual faculty by the chief coordinator (Staff Advisory) and HOD. The purpose is to suggest and implement remedial measures wherever necessary. Feedback will be taken from the students about the mentoring activities by the chief Coordinator (Staff advisory) and HOD to affect improvement in the programs.
