Theory and Practices in Pavement Engineering

The five day online FDP was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering to bring the academicians and practicing engineers to a common platform to exchange their views and researches on pavement design, construction, codal provisions, maintenance management systems and sustainable construction practices. The resource persons were identified in each of the specialized area from leading academic institutions like IIT, NIT, CET and from research organizations like National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), National Rural Roads Development Agency (NRRDA) and from Government Organisation like Public Works Department (PWD). The targeted participants were faculty from engineering colleges, practicing pavement engineers especially officials from Rebuild Kerala Project and research scholars. The registration for the programme started on 19th August 2020 and was closed on  24th August 2020. A total of 117 external registrations were received of which 36 were engineers, 27 were faculty of various engineering colleges (including colleges like CET, TKM, GEC-Thrissur and GEC- Kozhikode) and 54 research scholars. Thirty faculty members of the department also registered for the programme. The inaugural session was held on 24th August at 10:00am and the programme was officially inaugurated by Er. Punnoose George- Executive Chairman & Secretary-Saintgits Group of Institutions. 

There were totally nine sessions and all the sessions were attended by a group of enthusiastic participants. On an average the sessions was attended by 110 participants. The sessions were very much informative and all the sessions had very fruitful interactions and discussions at the end which lasted for 30- 45 minutes. Feedback of each session was taken at the end and it reflects the positive outcome of the programme. Participants have communicated that they may be intimated for the further events from our institution. Practicing engineers have informed coordinators about the fruitful discussions they had and they have assured that they will try to implement the new technologies in the field to the maximum possible extent.  The valedictory session was held on 28th August 2020 after the FN session.
