The inauguration of the Commerce Association (Yashus) and the Career Counselling Programme, organized by the Yashus team, was held on 2nd August 2024. The programme commenced at 2:50 PM with a prayer song. The association was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Mathew Jacob, Principal of Saintgits College of Applied Sciences, and CA Shine P. Joseph, Chairman of the ICAI Kottayam Branch. An MoU was signed between Saintgits College of Applied Sciences and the ICAI Kottayam Branch, marking the beginning of a promising collaboration.
CA Shine P. Joseph, the youngest Chairman of the ICAI Kottayam Branch and an inspiring role model for aspiring Chartered Accountants, addressed the audience and shared his insights on the significance of the CA profession.
The highlight of the event, the Career Counselling Programme, was led by the accomplished CA Annu John — a renowned Chartered Accountant and career counsellor. This 40-minute session proved to be a valuable learning experience, providing students with practical advice and meaningful insights into pursuing a career in Chartered Accountancy.

An Invited Talk on “GST and Its Implications” was held on 4th September 2024. The programme commenced at 1:45 PM with a prayer song and a brief introduction.
The session was conducted by CA Annu John. The first 40 minutes were dedicated to providing an overview of GST, including the applicable tax rates on various items across the country and their relevance in different states. She made the session more engaging by presenting relatable examples, enabling students to easily understand the composition of tax rates in each state.

Team Yashus launched its flagship programme, Commonics 1.0: Where Creativity Meets Strategy – The Ultimate Marketing Game, for the first time. The event consisted of three rounds, beginning with a quiz and logo identification. The top 10 teams were selected and promoted to the second round, which was conducted online.
In the second round, the teams were asked to select a UN Sustainable Development Goal from a provided list. They were required to create a marketing report and advertisement based on the selected goal. The best four teams were then selected and advanced to the third and final round.
The third round of Commonics 1.0 took place on 9th October 2024, where the selected four teams presented their submissions from the second round. The presentation round was evaluated by external judges, and audience polling was also conducted. Both the judges’ scores and audience votes were combined with equal weightage to ensure fairness.

An online three-day workshop on “Mastering M.Com Projects” was organized by the Department of Commerce from October 3rd to October 5th, 2024. The workshop aimed to equip M.Com students with the essential skills to effectively plan, execute, and present their research projects.
Dr. Antony Joseph K, the resource person, delivered a detailed presentation covering various aspects of project work, including research design, topic selection, objective setting, methodology, and presentation techniques.

The students of S3 B.Com Taxation visited Midas Treads Pvt. Ltd., Ponkunnam, and Masco Tea Factory, Vagamon as part of their industrial exposure.
At Midas Treads, students learned about the manufacturing and export of rubber treads using primarily cold feed technology. The process included buffing, rolling, chemical application, and mold customization for various applications. The company emphasized quality control, R&D, sustainability, and global exports, including to Europe and Finland.
At Masco Tea Factory, the students observed the tea production process from fresh leaf intake to final packaging. The factory uses CTC (Cut, Tear, Curl) methods and maintains strict temperature control for fermentation. Efficient processing, waste management, and export through Kochi auctions were also highlighted.
