Saintgits Sahyadri Nature Club

Saintgits College of Engineering Nature Club was established on 16 September 2014 on the occasion of International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer for environmental education, conservation and protection of biodiversity in the campus. It is the centre for nurturing of knowledge, enlisting the co-operation of volunteers and the inflow plough of new ideas and their implementation.   

The motto of Club is to see know and protect the natural environment around us. The Club   actively engages in various nature-related activities like Field Trip, Environmental Cleanliness Drive, Slogan and Drawing competitions, Adventure Activities, Snake and Dog Bite Awareness Programme, Environment Education Camps, Animal Welfare Activities, Paper collection for recycling, Paper Bag making, Pen seed making, PVC Composite Campaign, Talks by Eminent Naturalist, Nature Camps, Soap Making, Dragonfly Survey, Nature Photo Exhibition, Publications, Butterfly garden 

Our Club is a platform where the student is churned into nature-inspired engineers to create a sustained development of the nation.

  • Converting Nature Corner to a natural micro-ecosystem.
  • Plastic recycling plant( Chembilode  Kannur Model) 
  • Developing Padiyarakadavu Natural Habitat.

LATEST ACTIVITIES

Webinar on Pet and Wildlife Welfare by Dr Kishore (Forest Veterinary Officer) on Oct 2020

A one-hour webinar was conducted in association with Keral forest and wildlife Department as part of Wildlife Week Celebration on Oct 6 2020. It was part of clubs online activities during the pandemic time.

 Bird Survey on 8 February 2020

The club conducted a bird survey at Pallakkari Wetland with 31 students as part of birding activity of nature club.

Forest Visit on 1 January 2020

Forest visit was conducted by the club as part of its nature knowing scheme. 35 students participated in the program.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Completed Irrigation Proposal at Chinar Tribal Settlement in associated with Kerala Forest department March 1 2017
  • Created Nature Product Stall at Campus1 October 2017
  • Declared SAINTGITS College Campus Plastic free on 10 November 2018
  • Established Butterfly Garden Third Phase at College Campus 1 February 2018 in association with Tropical Institute of Ecological Sciences Kottayam.
