This course started in 2008 and has an annual intake of 36 students in two batches. Students, who are graduate engineers, get trained in state-of-the-art techniques in power system analysis, computer applications, optimization, control, security, dynamics and stability of power systems, HVDC transmission, FACTS, industrial electronics and controls, power electronics and drives, wind and solar energy conversion systems, among others. Projects are undertaken in the final semester of the course.
Power engineers work in a wide variety of industrial and commercial facilities. Many industrial facilities require their power engineers to operate not only on the support utilities but also on the processing sections of the operation. Facilities that typically require power engineers include hydrocarbon processing plants (refineries, gas plants etc.), thermal oil recovery (oil sands), power generation stations, chemical and petrochemical plants, office buildings, mines etc. Defense organizations such as DRDO, research and development laboratories such as CPRI, and MNCs such as ABB, Alstom, TATA, and RIL offer adequate opportunities for our graduates.
Value Added Course
These courses are career and market oriented, skill-enhancing courses that empower the students beyond their domain of study. The certificate programs enable them to enrich their capability and enhance their employability. Value added courses are conducted for one week during the semester breaks by department faculty as well as external trainers.
Electronic Circuit Design – This course is conducted for the fourth semester B Tech students. Organised by faculty members, the course sought to familiarise students on amplifier design, realization of power supply and a stable multi vibrator circuit, schematic drawing and layout design.
SCADA and PLC – This course is organized for the Sixth Semester B Tech students and is conducted by the Yokogawa Training Centre, Bangalore. The purpose is to enable students to set up and program the field controllers using the Logic Designer and the IEC61131-3 programming tools.
Solid State Physics – Dr K P Zacharia, Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Saintgits College of Engineering, Pathamuttom, conducted this course which was an introduction to solid-state physics and its tutorials – for the third semester B Tech EEE students.
Activities under SEP – One-day workshop on energy conservation at EMC Trivandrum. Talk by Shahil M, Deputy manager, projects, KMML, on “A simple Awareness on Energy Management and Energy Management System”. Several other activities are also organized.
