B. Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering

B Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering is a four-year professional undergraduate programme offered by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala. The intake of sixty students are nurtured by staff advisors through a well-established mentoring system. The B Tech programme is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) from 2016. Electronics and Communication Engineering is the application of science and mathematics to provide ethical and optimal solutions to socio-economic problems for the betterment of mankind.

Electronics and Communication engineers engage in research, design, development and testing of the electronic equipment used in various systems. The course covers a wide range of technologies for future growth in the fields like VLSI Design, Embedded Systems, Communication Systems etc. During the course tenure, the students have to undergo specialized training to upgrade and fine tune their engineering skills and creativity through courses like Design and Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Project Design & Implementation etc. through which they can develop projects of their own interest & provide feasible solutions to real world problems. Industrial training is a part of the curriculum where students have to work in an industry which is related to their area of interest for a minimum period of 4 weeks during the summer vacation. Active membership and participation in the Professional bodies like IEEE, IETE, IE(I) and ISTE nurture the professional and leadership skills of our students. The unique advantage for a student joining this course is the unlimited opportunity to be trained and certified in ANSYS and CADENCE.

Programme Outcomes

The Programme Outcomes of Undergraduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering are

1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

3. Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

4. Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to
provide valid conclusions.

5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

M. Tech. in VLSI and Embedded Systems

M.Tech. in VLSI and Embedded Systems is a two-year programme offered by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala. VLSI technology has emerged out as a successful conglomeration of material science and electronics engineering. The programme focus on developing hands-on skills in the design and simulation of semiconductor devices and circuits, architecting systems using embedded components. Electronics engineers will be trained in areas starting from lowermost level of physical devices to the top level of application development.

This program aims at preparing electronics engineers to develop knowledge and skills in VLSI design methodology with a systems perspective in order to facilitate the use of computer-aided design tools for the analysis and design of special purpose digital and analogue circuits and systems. We organize regular interactive sessions by experts from industry and academia along with conferences, workshops and seminars in the thrust areas. In association with IEEE SSCS and VLSI & Embedded industries, we offer specialized hands-on training to our graduates on high-end industry supported syllabus. This programme also offers strong knowledge in the Embedded system design covering thrust areas, such as, Advanced Embedded Microcontrollers, Real Time Embedded Systems, Advanced Embedded System Design and System on Chip. Trained engineers in VLSI design can start their career in the semiconductor industry and become a VLSI engineer. Special ‘Tailor Made Courses” in IC Design & Embedded Systems are provided to our PG scholars to make them industry ready so that they can seek their career as Front- end verification engineers, Validation engineers, Modelling engineers, Verification consultants, PCB designers, AMS designers, DFT designer and Library developers.

M. Tech in Telecommunication Engineering

M Tech in Telecommunication Engineering is a two-year programme offered by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala. Telecommunication is an exciting branch of electronics and communication engineering which spotlight the spectacle of modern communication technology using the state-of-the-art advancement in Microelectronics and Computers. Keeping the significance and demand for talented and qualified Telecommunication Engineer’s for the nation needs, the department is starting the M Tech programme in Telecommunication Engineering during the next academic year.

The department has competent and dedicated faculty well versed in teaching and dissemination of knowledge in the related topics of microwaves, satellite communication, Digital and wireless communication and optical communication. The students and the faculty of the department take part in national/international conferences as well as workshops and seminars in their areas of interest. This gives them valuable insight into global trends and advances in the telecommunications field.

This M Tech Program is designed to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge in the area of Communications, Signal Processing, and Wireless Networks, along with system modelling and integration aspects emphasizing overall system behavioural studies both in theoretical and practical aspects. At the end of the programme, the student achieves the ability to identify pressing research issues and research directions in Communications, Signal Processing, and Wireless Networks.

Value Added Courses

To minimize the industry-academia gap for research scholars, this proposed initiative aims to equip them with hands-on training on industry-based tools to make them industry-ready. The syllabus for the course on VLSI has been prepared with the help of experts, such as Dr Jan Van, IEEE-SSCS, President, Dr Rakesh Kumar, former SSCS President & CEO, TCX Technology Connexions, California, Rakesh Malik, Sr Group Manager at ST Microelectronics, and Chair at IEEE SSCS Delhi chapter. The advisory board comprises, apart from Rakesh Malik, Dr Rakesh Kumar, president & CEO, TCX Technology Connexions, California and former SSCS president, Dr Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, JNU, New Delhi, Dr Rama S Komaragiri – Professor HOD, Bennett University, Uttar Pradesh, and Dr D Nirmal – Associate Professor, Karunya University, Coimbatore. Similarly, Digicore Technologies is the industry partner for the Embedded Systems course. The third course in Communication Engineering, with Ansys as their industry partner, is being planned for the students.
