The ASCE Saintgits Student Chapter of Saintgits College of Engineering was established to provide technical platforms for budding civil engineering students. ASCE Saintgits student chapter was officially authorized as one of the 25 student chapters in India in 2018. The student chapter served as a gateway to forums, panel discussions, and conferences that stimulate a student’s professional development. Preparation and presentation of technical reports and papers and cooperative efforts on research projects allow the students to test their technical expertise. The members of the ASCE Saintgits Student Chapter have won several prizes in national-level technical events over the years. The Saintgits ASCE team also marked history by building Kerala’s first-ever concrete canoe.

Objective and Purpose

The main objective of the ASCE Saintgits Student Chapter is to encourage its members to develop commendable knowledge in civil engineering and to advance in civil engineering. We also develop civil engineers with innovative ideas, leadership qualities, and high technical competencies to contribute efficiently to the industry and research.

The American Society of Civil Engineers, the oldest national professional engineering society, was founded in 1852 to enhance the welfare of humanity by advancing the science and profession of civil engineering.

Why join ASCE?

Becoming a member of ASCE gives students a chance to apply knowledge from the classroom to “real world” situations, like a concrete canoe, research, etc… Joining ASCE Saintgits Student Chapter not only allows students to apply their engineering knowledge in events but also learn about teamwork, leadership, and ethics that are necessary for the profession.

Members of ASCE also get the opportunity to give back to the community. ASCE Chapter coordinates community activities to reflect on differences made and make it a better place for all of us to live in.

Major Achievements

Letter of Honourable Mention

ASCE Saintgits Student Chapter was selected by the Committee on Student Members to receive a Letter of Honourable Mention for its outstanding activities as recorded in the 2020 Chapter annual report. This is recognition received by only the top third of all Student Organizations.

Rising Star Award

ASCE Saintgits student Chapter team constructed Kerala’s first-ever floating concrete canoe, “Jatayu” and won the Rising Star Award in the year 2020.

International Representation

Our student chapter qualified in ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competitions at the ASCE India Symposium and represented India at final rounds held at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, USA.

ASCE India National Conference

ASCE Saintgits Student Chapter has made remarkable achievements in the India Region Annual Conference which is hosted annually by prestigious institutions across India.  Our members secured prizes for Paper presentations, Sustainable solutions, Idea Presentation competitions, and Concrete Canoe competitions in the past years.

ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition

The ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition provides students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience while testing their skills with concrete mix designs and project management challenges.

Our student chapter is the first to participate in the National Concrete Canoe Competitions from the state of Kerala. We also secured 3rd position in the competition held in the year 2021.
