The Mathematics Club – Infinity aims the students to promote interest in Mathematics. The club functions under the leadership of faculties from the Mathematics department and the members are the B.Tech students. The club conducts various talks and conduct various competitions among the students. The club conducts Interschool Mathematics tournament and Intercollegiate quiz for Ramanujan Trophy.
Activities of Mathematics club 2023-24:
1. π Approximation Day
The Mathematics Club celebrated Pi Approximation Day on July 22, 2023, with great enthusiasm. Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22nd each year since the fraction 22/7 is a common approximation for the mathematical constant π (pi). This report outlines the activities and events that took place during the celebration.
One of the central activities of the celebration was the sharing of posters featuring pi-related facts and mathematical trivia. These posters were designed to pique the interest of students and promote awareness of the significance of pi in mathematics. The posters contained visually appealing graphics, interesting mathematical facts about pi, and information about the history of Pi Approximation Day.
2. An Expert Talk: “Harnessing the Power of Computational Mathematics in Engineering – An Introduction”
The Infinity Club, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, organized an expert talk titled “Harnessing the Power of Computational Mathematics in Engineering – An Introduction” on September 29, 2023 for First-year and Second-year students. The talk was conducted by Siju K. S, Associate Professor from the Department of Mathematics at Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam. The event aimed to introduce students to the importance of computational mathematics in the field of engineering
To celebrate National Mathematics Day, the Mathematics Club,” infinity” organized a competition “EXPONENTIA’23” for B.Tech students. We had 49 teams sign up, and after a preliminary round, 10 teams were selected. The final round took place on December 14, 2023, and included three segments: Sudoku, Rubik’s Cube, and Problem Solving.
